Initiation and Progress

Alcoholism is a disease which has no bias of gender, religion, race, community, or any other differences. It affects everyone and destroys their lives. It doesn’t matter what volume of drink they have had, which quality or brand they have chosen, where they drank or with whom they shared the drink.

What matters indeed is the action they took after the first drink. Practically speaking, no real alcoholic has had control after the first drink. She may have stopped after a few in the beginning. The progressive disease takes control of her body and mind into a firm grip. She may enter a stage when she starts hiding her bottles inside closets, wardrobes, kitchen cabinets, and other places at home. It is to avoid running out of drink when there could be no money to buy in the future.

Social Issues

In spite of being among the most advanced nations in the world, many women still hesitate to admit they are alcoholics. It could be due to social stigma, personal status, and so on. However, most of them have come out and accepted their deteriorating health conditions. Most of them have joined the recovery programs and got sober for good.

Family Issues

Many of the women alcoholics may be hesitant to admit or seek help because of their family stigmas. They may be scared of negative opinions from children or relatives. They think nobody knows about their condition, except perhaps their hubbies. But the truth could be different.

Recovery and Health

Once the women get into the recovery program, it is possible to restore their health to the normal levels. Staying sober one day at a time, they can take the responsibility of rebuilding their broken family, relations, self-care, finances, and other aspects of life.

In some cases, the restoration of health could be faster and in others, it could be gradual. Patience and persistence are the two key aspects which can keep them healthy and fit for work and life.

Diet Plan

It is vital for recovering female alcoholics to follow a nutritious diet plan. It has to be comprehensive for strengthening the muscles, balancing hormones, and reducing the level of everyday stress factors. Consultations with the family physician and dietician can be helpful in sustaining a high level of nutrients in the foods.

It is very important to practice the recovery and health programs in a balanced way for long term addiction-free life.
